What is Twilio and what does it do
Twilio provides the tools that enable businesses to send and receive text and voice messages. It’s a family of APIs for communications that enables developers, entrepreneurs and carriers to build powerful communications solutions into their mobile apps. Built on the open standards of messaging, Twilio offers a platform that can power enterprise-grade messaging applications and services. The Twilio family of APIs comes in two versions: Client (available now) and Server.
The Client (also known as the Voice & SMS API) enables any developer to build apps that can send and receive text and voice messages using existing phone numbers. The ready-to-use Client Library can be accessed through any web, mobile or application programming interface (API) development environment.
The Server (available soon) enables developers to quickly build scalable voice and text applications on the cloud. It comes with application software development kit (SDK), which has a new version for each major release of Twilio products. The Twilio SMS API is available in Developer, Basic, Standard and Bulk accounts.
