Introduction: What is the Steam Recent Players Feature?
The Steam Recent Players feature is a new way for you to check in on your friends list. This way, instead of having to manually visit them and wait an interminable amount of time while they load up their friends list, you can just see if they’re online by visiting this new feature. It’s much easier than waiting an hour or more.
If you’re familiar with the older method of visiting a friend’s profile page, you know that it took an incredible amount of time for their profile page to load. This is because Steam loaded the profiles of all their friends, then did the work to display them all on one page. This took forever and made Steam seem incredibly slow and innefficient.
While this feature is still in beta, it seems like it’s rather stable and works well. It takes an average of a second or two, much quicker than before!
What are the Benefits of Using the Recent Player Feature?
This is a very powerful and useful feature, because you can now go to any friends list and see if they’re online. (If they aren’t, it’s better to know that now instead of nine hours in.) This is also an ideal feature for streamers, since this will allow them to continue streaming even when their friends list might be full of viewers.
The way this works is that Valve will show recent players, using a system of either 30 minutes or 1 hour intervals. This is intended to be more than enough time for friends to keep up with each other, but it is not guaranteed. The default timer will be 30 minutes.
How you interact with the system is simple: You click on the button at the top of your friend list, and then click on a player’s steam name. (This is the same as how you invite a player as a friend.) You will then be automatically taken to their profile page.
How to Use the Recent Player List Feature in Steam?
To use the Steam Recent Players list feature, you can go to any friends list on Steam and click on the Player List tab at the bottom left of the screen. This will show you a list of everyone who was online in the last couple of hours, including players you are not friends with, according to their time zone. (With the exception of a few people listed in your own recent player list for your friends list.)
This menu is rather useful if you want to see who was online recently so you can send them messages, friend requests, etc. With the player list, there’s an option in the bottom right corner that says “Show Profile”. This will show you a profile of that specific person (if they have a public profile) that has all their information and games they play, etc.

To use the Steam Recent Players list feature, you can go to any friends list on Steam and click on the Player List tab at the bottom left of the screen. This will show you a list of everyone who was online in the last couple of hours, including players you are not friends with, according to Valve.
If you are not happy with the results of this feature, however, you can do something about it. Go to the Steam Community section of the Steam website and click on the top right button marked Explore Library. This will take you to a page full of social features, among other things. In this section is a button labeled What’s my Recent Players list? Click it.
You will then be presented with more options than I can count. This is the option you want. Click on it.
This will open a new tab and take you to a page that gives you three options: Recently played, Not played, and Newest players. The middle option is what we are looking for. Under this, you will see entries for every game on which you have installed achievements or Steam Trading cards. You can then click on one of these entries in order to view who has played the game recently.
