What is Xkit

Xkit is a Chrome extension that was used by individuals to save webpages and collaborate on online documents. It was first released in 2012 for Chrome and Safari, later expanding to Firefox and several other browsers. Xkit also supports collaborative editing, allowing users to collaborate, edit, and comment on the same document.
In late 2012, Xkit was acquired by Dropbox along with all of Xkit’s assets and intellectual property. The acquisition was part of a larger effort by Dropbox to further integrate cloud storage and real-time collaboration into the company’s product set.
Subsequent to the acquisition, Xkit was rewritten to integrate with Dropbox’s tools and services. This move allowed Xkit to work more closely with other products at Dropbox, including Dropbox Paper and Drafts.
In February 2013, Xkit was announced as one of several new features that had been added to the latest version of Chrome, currently version 16.0.

How to Prevent XKit from Installing on My Computer

Although Xkit has been discontinued, you may still see a browser extension or an add-on for Firefox on your computer. You can easily remove the application from your browser by following these steps: STEP 1: Click on the Chrome menu icon and select “Settings” in the drop-down. STEP 2: Scroll down to the bottom of the settings page and click on “Extensions.” STEP 3: Click on “Add-ons.” STEP 4: Select “Remove all” from the Remove Xkit extension list. STEP 5: Select “OK.”
If you’re using Firefox, use these steps to remove Xkit: STEP 1: Open Firefox and click on the Menu button. STEP 2: Select “Add-ons.” STEP 3: Click on “Extensions,” then click on the Remove button next to XKit. STEP 4: Click on “Restart Now.” If you’re using IE, click here for instructions.

What is the Difference Between Uninstallation & Deletion?

After uninstalling Xkit, your browser will remove the files associated with the extension. Uninstalling is not the same as deleting its folder on your hard drive. Therefore, you cannot delete just one file while leaving other files intact. You can erase any number of files at a time by going to “Delete” in Windows Explorer or Finder and by selecting a group of files in Mac OS X Finder. However, you can still retrieve the files if you do not permanently delete them.
Before you decide to delete, it is recommended that you back up your data. This will ensure that you can always recover your data in case something goes wrong.
Delete each file individually before backing up. To do this, proceed with one of the following procedures:
Go to My Computer and locate the folder containing the files. Select the files and drag them on to the Trash.

Note: Uninstalling Xkit on Mac OS X will not remove the extension from Safari. To uninstall using Safari, go to Applescript > Script Browser and select “uninstall”, then run the script in Safari.
