It seems like a lot of people have trouble imagining what it’s like to be a software engineer… so I might as well share a few of my personal experiences and get myself back into college!

Offer advice for anyone who is thinking about becoming a software engineer
Do not go into software engineering expecting to make a lot of money. (generally, you should expect to make at minimum 10K a year more than everyone else if you want to be able to survive in today’s economy) It’ll be very hard for you to find a job if you don’t have your degree, so that’s a good thing. If you can make it through the whole process and keep up with your classes, you’ll be able to find a great job right away.
Give yourself plenty of time to complete it. I graduated in 3 years, but I had to work very hard especially the last semester.
If you’re looking to make a lot of money, you should probably find another engineering field (unless you’re developing games, then you can make bank). In my opinion, software engineering is one of the most enjoyable engineering fields. You’ll definitely get a great education at a top school if that’s what you want.
Look for a job in the area where you’ll want to live. I went to school for a year before dropping out and looking for work, and I didn’t find anything in my area. You can change your job location if you need to.
