What is snagit

Snagit is a professional screen capture software that assists in the taking and editing of images, video, and audio. The package comes with a wide range of features, including enhanced editing tools like video stabilization, as well as tools for adding text to objects on screen. It can also be used in conjunction with other software to enhance the imaging process. There are two versions of Snagit; a free version, which allows for only one screen capture at a time, but offers more features and a higher quality image, and the full version, which has many more features and is compatible with Windows XP and later.
Snagit is also available for iPad and iPhone. (app store)
In May 2007, TechSmith created a desktop application, SnagIt Capture, to allow users to easily take screen shots. This application was originally intended as a tool that could be used by the company’s employees in order to develop a more efficient way of capturing screenshots. Once the Capture tool was created, TechSmith decided to launch it as a standalone application.

What is a snipping tool

A snipping tool is very similar to a screen capturing tool. The main difference is that it is less powerful and requires one of the applications mentioned in point 1 to function. You can configure it such that it takes a screenshot after you press the snipping button, which means you cannot take screenshots without the aid of software. It also does not allow for image enhancement or text insertion. It can only save images in one format (.jpg), while Snagit has the capability to capture and save images in multiple formats.
1. Windows Vista, 7 and 8 include the built-in Snipping Tool. It simply allows taking screenshots of any rectangular area or a free-form area by pressing the Ctrl + “PrintScreen” buttons or the PrtScn button on your computer keyboard.
While it is simple to use, it has some limitations:
It also saves in a lossless .jpg format which gives you a good quality image but with larger file sizes.
2. Snagit screenshot tool is an all-purpose screen capture and image editor that allows you to take screenshots and edit images. It can also be used as a screen lecture capture tool by the drag-and-drop option. A great feature of this free to use app is that it features a built-in image editor, which allows you to do some of the following:

How do they differ

Snagit is more powerful, more versatile, and more reliable than a snipping tool. The free version is also better quality, while the free version of a snipping tool provides very low quality images. Snagit can also be used along with other software to create more powerful imaging tools.
Snagit is able to capture still images of the exact area which is selected by the user. It can not only serve as a general purpose screenshot tool for Windows, but also for capturing and editing audio, video, and windows. Snagit can import images from the clipboard, thus bringing many images together into one image file.
In comparison to snipping tool, snagit can be used as a photo editor to crop objects out of photos.
snagit can capture video, which is then saved as a movie file. While snipping tool doesn’t have video option, it can sample a region of the screen and then save it to a clipboard link. While snip tool’s is reviewed more positively by many reviewers, snagit’s reviews are more consistent and longer.
The following are features of Snagit:
Unlimited Snaps: Snagit can capture an unlimited number of screenshots at once. You can also change the capture format at any time.
Drag and Drop: SnagIt can save an image anywhere on your computer. It automatically recognizes objects on your screen and creates a new image with the parts you want to keep. Also, it understands your mouse gestures so that you can drag, drop, and save to a location of your choice.

When to use snagit

Snagit is a reliable and efficient tool that can be used in nearly any situation involving creation of images. It can also be used as an assistant for other applications, such as digital audio and video editing software. Snagit has a user-friendly interface, which makes it easy to learn how to use it. The free version is very limited in features, but the paid version is more powerful and will provide high quality images. Snagit is best used when you want a high quality image at the first attempt. If you do not have time for editing and other software use, then Snagit is your best option as it does not require the use of any other application.
High quality images are not always easy to obtain, so if you get a poor quality image from a scanner or camera, consider using Snagit to fix the images. While many people do not like duplicate software as it bloat their system, Snagit is different. Snagit does not require extra system resources and will run on almost any version of Windows. It can be used both for personal and professional use. It can be used to capture and edit images. It is also good at editing audio and video. It can be used to capture still images, record screencasts and create movies.
