History of the company
In the 1960s Savard Labor & Marine temporarily sponsored a team in the American Hockey League. Pierre Savard was the general manager, who later became involved with the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League.
Savard, who owned the team with his brothers, recruited Jean Beliveau, who played in five games for the Voyageurs and scored two goals. In 1966 Beliveau paid $3500 to buy the franchise but was outbid by a group of businessmen in Quebec City. The team was moved to Springfield, Massachusetts late in the 1967-68 season and became the Springfield Kings.
The Voyageurs played in the Central Professional Hockey League (CPHL) from 1967 until 1969, when they moved to St. Jerome and won the league title.
