The history of the company
Paul Davis Restoration, Inc. was founded in Charlotte, North Carolina in January of 1979. Mr. Paul Davis had been a retail fire extinguisher salesman at Fire Extinguisher Specialty Company and recognized a need for professional services outside of just selling extinguishers to local fire agencies throughout the Carolinas. By 1978, Mr. Davis moved his family to Charlotte and began a part-time job as an assistant general manager at Fire Extinguisher Specialty Company. He knew well the needs of the fire service and was familiar with the system of competitive bidding in the fire extinguishing industry. He began to pursue his own ideas for a new business venture, which grew into Paul Davis Restoration.
As a retail salesman, Mr. Davis came up with ideas for an American made line of fire extinguisher covers and cases. Many companies would not manufacture such personal products unless they committed to certain levels of sales volume. In order to make his products financially viable, Mr. Davis had to concentrate his efforts on the same fire service agencies that he had been selling extinguishers for.
In 1979, Mr. Davis began operating out of a small facility in downtown Charlotte. He quickly learned that the business was much more difficult than he anticipated and the additional time required took away from the time he needed to spend with his family. Mr. Davis decided at this point in his career that if this was going to be a career for him, he would have to build a company around it. In the spring of 1980, Mr. Davis found a new home for his company at an old warehouse in Huntersville, North Carolina. It was well situated between the Interstate and U.S. Highway 74 and had a good relationship with the fire service and engineering agencies in the area.
