What it means to be “on course”
What does it mean to be on course? Being on course is making progress, which is a term that describes events that happen in the future. So if you are going for a race and everything goes according to plan, you are on course to win. The term was first heard from sporting events, but soon spread into other arenas and now has different meanings within those areas. No one want their event to feel like they have too much of a head start, so this occurrence would make them feel more anxious than happy. A person on course , on the other hand, has done everything correctly and is ready to finish the race in an amazing time.
Being on course can also describe someone that is doing their job correctly. In this case, an employee is on course when they are not getting any complaints from the audience of their current work. The term for this can sometimes be “on track”. This means that the employee has done everything right and should be praised for their work. When a manager wants to give criticism to an employee, they will sometimes say that they are “off course”, which means that they have made a mistake while working and need to fix it before continuing.
Why it’s important to have a plan B
What’s the number one rule of a race? You can’t give up. This is a very important lesson to learn if you want to be on course . Sometimes it’s not in your favor. There will always be times when things don’t go as planned, so you have to prepare yourself for that. You can’t predict when things are going to go wrong, so it’s always better to have a backup plan before it gets to that point. So what is your Plan B? It could be anything, but if you don’t know what you are going to do then you won’t be able to make the right decisions when the time comes. Wikipedia defines a plan B as “a backup plan, contingency plan, or fallback that occurs when the planned action can’t be completed.” So it’s usually your best friend in life. It could be your cellphone, wallet, house key, etc., anything that you can go find in case of an emergency. You wouldn’t leave it in your car because you might forget where you left it and have to look for it everywhere. You pre-determine what your Plan B is and make sure that everyone knows about it. You have to be prepared for anything that could happen. Make sure you know what you are going to do if your launch gets rained out or if you end up at a different launch site. Even your car keys can be your Plan B, but you need to make sure that it’s in an easy-to-find location before you start driving.

The power of positive thinking
The number one lesson of being on course is that you need a positive mind. It can be hard to stay positive when things aren’t looking your way, but it’s not impossible. You have to remind yourself that obstacles are part of life and they are there for a reason. If you think about them as challenges, then you will have a better time going through them. Some people never give up on their dreams because they know it’s better to be rejected than to quit.
I got to experience this first hand a few weeks back. I am right on the fence between 2 different weights, and I picked the higher one (74 kgs). About 2 weeks into training, my body just couldn’t handle it anymore. I was dead tired, and even though I didn’t want to, I had to reduce weight. It was so tempting to quit and just drop down a weight class, but that wouldn’t be good for my long term progress.

How to keep your motivation high
If being on course is about being positive, then being positive is about staying on track. Being positive does not just mean thinking of the good things that happen to you. It means thinking of the bad things as well as the good. If you always look at things from a negative vantage point, you will never have a chance at success.
Being positive is something most people have a hard time with. This is because life, in general, is really hard for most people. Unless you know that life will always be difficult, it’s not a good idea to operate from fear. Fear affects your brain the same way that weakness would affect your body.
