Introduction: Why Some Users Might Want to Turn Off the Ring Doorbell’s Chime
Some users might want to turn off the ring doorbell’s chime because it is hard for them to hear it in a noisy neighborhood or because they have sensitive hearing. When you install the ring doorbell, you assign it a ringtone. You can’t use your own ringtone. If you turn off the ring doorbell, your ringtone will vanish.
If you turn off the ring doorbell’s chime, it will still alert you to activity in your home. The alert will appear on your ring app and the status light will glow red when the doorbell detects motion or sound.
To turn off chime, follow these steps:
Log into https://my.ring.com and click “My devices” on the left side of your screen. This takes you to a page with all of your ring devices, including your doorbells.
Ring devices are listed alphabetically by name. Select the ring doorbell you want to turn off the chime on, which will open its settings page. Select “Ring Chime” at the top of the page.
At this point, you have three choices:
Step 1 – Install the Latest Firmware Update
To turn off the ring doorbell’s chime, you must have the latest firmware update. If you do not have the latest firmware update, your ring doorbell will not allow you to turn off its chime. To install the firmware update, follow these steps:1. Download the firmware update: http://support.ring.com/home/install-help?type=firmware & address=http://dlc.ring.com/ringstore_promo/US…
2. Download a program called Win32 Disk Imager, which is what Ring uses to install their firmware updates: http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/files/latest/download
3. Once you have downloaded and installed Win32 Disk Imager, connect your ring doorbell to your computer via USB, then unzip the folder containing the ring doorbell firmware file.
4. Insert a blank DVD into the drive of your computer, and open Win32 Disk Imager. Click on the folder icon to locate the folder containing the firmware update, then click “Write”.
5. Insert the blank DVD into the drive of your computer, and wait for the file to copy over. When it is finished copying, you will see a pop-up message saying “Press any key to eject.” Press any key to close the window.
