Insert SD card into Chromebook
It is very important to insert your SD card into your Chromebook before formatting it. This is because the SD card will not show up in Chrome OS unless you have inserted it. Simply put your SD card into the slot made for it. If the Chromebook does not recognize the card, check to make sure it is the right way. The SD card should be facing towards you, with the words “SD slot” facing downwards.
Steps
Here are some screenshots of how to insert an SD card into your Chromebook. Remember to always power down your Chromebook before inserting or removing SD cards. This can be done by holding down the “power” button for five seconds.
1.Press the “power” button on the Chromebook.
2. After it boots up, press “ctrl+d” to get to chrome OS by default.
3.From that screen, click on “Settings” in the lower-left corner of your screen. (This may be different if you do not have a touch screen).

Open Files app
If you don’t have access to the Files app, you can use “Ctrl-Shift-E” (or Ctrl+Shift+E) to open it. If the Files app doesn’t load, press “Enter” to launch it by pressing Enter on your keyboard. If it opens, you can then access the File Manager tab to find your SD card.
If you have trouble finding your SD card, press Ctrl+Shift+O to open the file menu. Search for “mount” and click on the empty line under it. This will launch file manager. Once launched, you can find your SD card by clicking on “mount” again so that a single row appears under the “Drive” section and clicking on the SD card in that line.
On your Chromebook, follow these steps to access and format an SD card:
Click the Launcher Up arrow . Click Settings . Look for the memory section, then click Manage SD cards . Click on the “ name of your SD card ”. Click Format SD card . In the Format Storage Device window that appears, under “File system”, click Overwrite the file system with a new one and confirm by clicking Next .

Click on the SD card in the left-hand column
Click on the SD card on the left-hand side of the Files app to launch it. It will show up under Local Storage.
You can drag and drop files from other sources onto this card, and they will be saved to the SD card instead of your Chromebook’s hard drive.
Your Chromebook only recognizes an SD card as a media device if it is inserted before you power on your computer.
To format the card, click on the “Format SD card…” option in the upper left-hand corner. Select “All files” from the Format SD card options, and then click OK.
This will erase everything on that partition, which will then be used for your operating system and apps.
If you want to write to a new partition as a new drive, then click on “Create new volume,” and choose “Chrome OS.” Your Chromebook will show up under New Volume in the left-hand column.

Click on the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the window
By clicking on the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the window, you will create a new folder in that section. You can then drag and drop that folder onto your SD card. This will create a new folder called “Chrome OS.”
If you already have files on your SD card, go to “Settings,” then scroll down and click on “About Chrome OS.” This will bring you to a window with your device name shown at the top and information about your device underneath. Then, click on the “Supply feedback” button. A feedback window will pop up, and in the upper right-hand corner of that window there will be an option to report an issue. Click that and follow the instructions for sending a report.

Select Format from the menu that appears
Once you have made your new folder, you can then click on it to select it. When this menu appears, select “Format as Extended Storage.” And then click on “Format.” Here you can then select which file system to use, which will depend on the company that made your Chromebook and what file format you want it to support. When you have chosen the appropriate settings for your Chromebook, click on “Format.”
If you are trying to format an SD card on a Chromebook, it is going to be really difficult for you because there is no such option as an SD card in the “format” menu. It will not work
