identify which button is stuck
If your controller starts to misbehave, the first thing you should do is check which button is stuck. There are four main buttons on the controller: A, X, B, and Y. The A button will make your character jump if there’s something to jump over and talk with NPCs when their icon appears in the game world. The Y button will use your character’s mouth to say the name of an item you’re holding or whatever on your character’s inventory. The X button will go through doors in the game world, as well as open chests in dungeons and castles. The B button activates the bow and arrow, whereas the shoulder button is used to use some heavy melee weapons (like swords and axes). The shoulder and thumb buttons are used to use magic in the game world.
How To Check Which Button Is Stuck:
remove the faceplate of the controller
The faceplate of the controller is the removable part on top of your screen, and it’s also where you connect your controller to your console. There are five screws on the back of your controller, two in the middle and three on each side. One screw is covered by a plastic lid, which you can just remove right off. You can then remove the faceplate by sliding it off the controller.
Now, before you put the faceplate back on, make sure you clean it out. If there’s any dust or oil on the faceplate, it can cause the plastic piece that connects the two parts of your controller to deform and become unresponsive. Even if you can’t see it, just take a cotton swab and swipe it across the bottom part of the faceplate where it connects to the receiver. You want to make sure that any dust or other unwanted particles are gone before putting up your faceplate for good.
Once you’re done cleaning, put your faceplate back on. You may need to turn the controller on first. If this is the case, it should say “controller disconnected” and a green light will come on at the top of your controller.
On the left side of your controller, you’ll see three small holes in the faceplate that are used to connect to your console. Plug in the USB cord into one of these three holes and plug in the controller’s power cord into a nearby power source. When you’re finished, you should hear a noise coming from your controller and it should light up. If this doesn’t happen, make sure you’re setting your controller on the right side of your console and then try turning it on again.
locate the button that is stuck and apply pressure to it until it pops back into place
If you’ve found your stuck button, the next thing to do is to press down on it. The button will pop back into place if you press hard enough, and it will work normally again (or at least it should). You can then put your controller back together. If the button doesn’t pop back into place, it’s possible that it might be broken. In that case, you’ll have to try replacing it.

reattach the faceplate and test out the button
If your button doesn’t pop back into place, you’ll need to reattach the faceplate. After doing so, you can test out the button by pressing it a few times to see if it works. If the button still doesn’t work, try replacing it with a new one from a game store. If you want to put your controller back together, it’s best to screw the faceplate on using small pieces of paper first, so you can attach it with large bolts safely. Also, be sure to tighten the screws properly.

if the button is still sticking, repeat these steps until it’s fixed
If your button doesn’t work after following these steps, it’s best to try and replace it. However, before you do so, you’ll have to try these steps first. Even if your controller has several stuck buttons, this guide should help you get them all fixed. Good luck!
Try a different controller: The first thing you should try and do is remove your batteries from your controller and put them into another one. If the second controller functions normally, you will have to buy a new battery cover for your controller. If the second controller is also experiencing problems then you may have an internal problem which will require more extensive repairs.
