What is HitFilm Speed Up and how does it work
In the video below, Hitfilm speed up was used to slow down an interview in order to highlight certain sections of the speaker’s message. The effect is a lot more profound than simply slowing the footage down to 50% or 25% speed.
Now there are several tutorials online which discuss the possibilities of using different video filters to increase video speed. In this article we’re going to manipulate a video using HitFilm Speed Up and highlight certain sections of the speaker’s message in order to create an effect that is not easily created.
For the purpose of this article, we are going to work with an existing video that’s in 1080p HD.
For a video to be sped up, it must be recorded at a higher frame rate than it was originally recorded in order to match the speed of the playback. The frame rate is simply the number of individual frames captured in a single second (30fps: 30 images per second. 24fps: 24images per second. 25fps: 25 images per second etc. 60fps: 60 images per second.).

This software is very user friendly and it comes with detailed instructions. This tutorial is a perfect place to start, even if you are a novice at video editing. You also get free updates so it’s always worth checking back to learn how to use a new software. Just note that this tutorial is specifically geared to using HitFilm Speed Up and it will be a little difficult to follow if you are using other video editing software.
