What is Unreal Engine 4 and why is it open source
Unreal Engine 4 is completely open source…it does not have a proprietary license like many other game development engines have. It was created by Epic Games, a company that has built several successful games over the years and was later purchased by Japanese game developer, Tencent Holdings. In March 2014, Epic Games announced that they were releasing Unreal Engine 4 to the open source community…The company is also said to be working with Unity Technologies and Smilegate to bring Unreal Engine 4 support to their gaming engines.
Unreal Engine 4 was developed primarily by Epic’s chief technology officer, Tim Sweeney. He was the one who decided to make the source code available to the community for free. In his own words, “Unreal Engine 4 is the first full product release that is made with that [open source] model… It’s a whole new world we’re living in.”
How to get started with Unreal Engine 4
To start with Unreal Engine 4 you need to get the free version from their website. The free version includes all of the required scripts, materials, and other pieces for creation to begin. You can then move up to the paid license by purchasing a product key. After that you will be able to download and install the actual engine and keep working on your games in it. The one thing that you cannot do in the free version is create games. The engine only allows you to make games a certain size (100 MB) and you can only exercise 3 seconds of gameplay.

The benefits of using Unreal Engine 4 for game development
Unreal Engine 4 is used by many game developers, including large studios such as Square Enix, Ubisoft and Bethesda. The engine is cross-platform and can be used to make console and PC games. Advantages include its ability to create games like “Fortnite” and “Black Ops 2”. Unreal Engine 4 is a powerful engine that allows you to create more realistic and ambitious games. The one thing you cannot use the free version of Unreal Engine 4 for is game creation. So if you are willing to create a game in it, it may be best to opt for the paid version or purchase license key from somewhere else. If it’s only pure development, then you can get by with the free version.
Unreal Engine 4 is the successor to Unreal Engine 3. In 2016, we saw Unreal Engine 4 go on open beta and it has been a great success. It was developed by Epic Games and founded on the engine of Unreal Engine 3. UE4 is a third party engine that is free for personal and commercial use.
To get started with UE4 and creating your own game, you need a copy of the software. The game engine does not come with any asset pack or tutorials, so you will have to make them yourself. There are a lot of assets in the free version. But to create an entire game, you will need to buy assets from one of the Unreal Builder Marketplace stores. In addition, you can also design your own game and get it printed with the print-on-demand program called “Print on demand” (not photorealistic).
Unreal Engine 4 is known for its smooth frame rate and low CPU usage. This is achieved by using a technology called “Lighting and Shadows”. UE4 also supports DirectX 11, OpenGL 3.2, OpenGL 4 and Vulkan. However, if you want to use more modern platforms such as Xbox One X and PS4Pro, you will need to purchase a license from the Unreal Engine store.

First person games can be created using Unreal Engine 4 without much problem because it comes with built-in support for first person games. Moreover, these types of games can also be created using VR in a very natural and believable way. So if you want to create some first person games that you can play on a computer or console, the Unreal Engine 4 is the right choice for you.
How to contribute to the Unreal Engine 4 community
To contribute and to make sure that the engine is as open and accessible as possible, they have created the Unlicense. The Unlicense is a strict set of rules in which to maintain the engine. The rules cover everything from what games can be made with it, what versions can be used, and how to share your modifications with others. Below are some of the limitations put on Unreal Engine 4: ● Unreal Engine 4 can only be used to make non-commercial games. You cannot sell or use this engine commercially. ● The engine may only work with Windows and Mac operating systems. ● You cannot modify the engine source code. ● You must share all game features that you create in Unreal Engine 4, including scripts and materials, for free for anyone to use. There are about a dozen other rules that are outlined in more detail on their website.
These rules are meant to keep the engine accessible and easy to use for developers. They encourage people to work together with the community and continue making games and improving upon their original work. This has shown to be a successful system as there are already over 1000 games that have been built on Unreal Engine 4, five years after its release. Contribute by reviewing code changes on GitHub, submitting bug reports in their public tracker, or answering questions asked by other users on Stack Overflow.
