BACKGROUND INFORMATION: A dumpster is a large, gray, trash container that can be rented by the hour or day. The City of Huntsville contracts with Sanitation Services of Huntsville (SSH) to provide this service, and the normal charge for this service is $40 per each cubic yard of material.
Since the size and weight of large items varies, you can call our office to schedule a pick-up for your items. We will come and pick up your dumpster and have it taken away at the end of the day. Please note that we cannot always accommodate requests for special pickup due to road construction or other special needs.

How do I know which day of the week my trash will be collected at my house or business address?
To schedule a trash collection, or for questions about your garbage service, please call the office at 256-428-5454. We are available from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will receive a confirmation number that you can reference when your garbage is being picked up. Please note that we will not collect trash on the weekend.
If you’re unsure about which day of the week your trash will be picked up, check your collection calendar. It is located on the back of your garbage bill. Can I put out extra bags of garbage on top of my regular trash bin if it’s not full yet and there are only a few days until pickup day again, or is that against the rules/policies enforced by the City of Huntsville Solid Waste Department ?
No, you should not put out extra bags of trash on top of your regular trash bin. If you have bagged items that are not included on the pick-up schedule or at a different address to be picked up on another day, they should be placed in a dumpster we provide and delivered to the dumpster’s designated address. You will receive and invoice for the service that is provided.
If you have a partial bag of trash that has been placed on top of your regular trash bin, and you need to put out another bag, you should wait until the following pickup day. You may put out two bags of garbage on top of your regular trash bin on that next pickup day.

If you have a large amount of something that is not included on the list of acceptable items for curbside garbage pick-up, it must be placed in the dumpster we provide. You will receive an invoice for the service that is provided. For example, if you have a large amount of construction debris that is not included in the pick-up schedule, this special item would be taken off your garbage collection. You will receive an invoice for the service that is provided.
We collect all items that are put out for the scheduled pick-up day. If it is not collected, it is not our fault. Check the collection schedule on your city trash utility bill to be sure you are following the rules. Items left out past 7:00 pm will be picked up as regular garbage and billed at that time.
