Nitro is a new feature in the avast antivirus software that speeds up scanning and malware removal
One of the most noteworthy features in the latest update to avast! Antivirus is Nitro, which gives you faster scans and malware removal. “Enterprises have different needs from home users. Enterprises need to protect more devices and work quickly; so we put a lot of work into making sure that those devices are protected,” said Vince Steckler, CEO of avast. “And in some cases, it’s faster for them because they are scanning more devices at once. You can use Nitro on a large network and have it scan multiple devices at once.”
Nitro is just one of many new features in the latest update to avast! Antivirus, which is being released today. “We have a number of new innovations,” said Steckler. “The ability to scan multiple devices at once is one of the most important new capabilities we have. The other one is the ability to update remotely – especially in a real-time way that works well – so your device can be updated while it’s on the network.”
Nitro is easily set up and configurable in a snap for both home users and enterprises.

It’s available as a free update to all avast users
Of course, users can also install the Nitro feature on their various devices including Android smartphones and tablets, Windows PCs and Macs, as well as routers and NAS devices. For those who are not familiar with what the Nitro update is, it is an ad-free premium version of the popular antivirus packages.
The avast Nitro update review will go through what’s new in this version and let you know if it’s worth giving up your current free avast antivirus for. It also has some competition from other well known brands, if you’re on the fence about whether or not to go for this update.
What’s new?
The avast Nitro update not only brings an ad-free experience to its users, but also boasts a decent amount of features. For example, anti-spam, parental controls and web filtering are now included by default. These tools can be used to block unwanted junk mail or inappropriate content that can affect your browsing experience.
The new version also brings an optimized interface design that’s cleaner, with less clutter. You also get to customize the utility settings, depending on your preferences. For instance, if you want to select which applications are allowed to run while the antivirus is turned on or which scheduled tasks can still run when the system is asleep.

Nitro has two main components – a quick scan and a full scan
The goal of both is to hurry up the process of scanning, removal, updating and installation. Quick scan detects suspicious objects very quickly. “The new scanning engine uses our behavioral-based detection technology to focus the analysis on files that are most likely malicious. This means that Avast Antivirus scans faster and uses fewer system resources,” said Steckler.
Full scans detect all objects which your previous scans have missed. Full or deep scanning detects malicious software that may have slipped through earlier checks. Avast Antivirus also takes care of updating itself with the latest virus signature database and signature updates for third-party security components.
The application installer
Installation process is fast and easy and does not require any user input unless you want to change the default settings. The first time you run the application, it will download the updated virus database and all of its components.

The quick scan is much faster than the standard scan, but it doesn’t check as many areas for malware
As a result of this, the quick scan only searches disk areas such as the file system, registry and browser history. Full scan looks at every file on your computer. Nitro also takes into account where you usually store a file when you want to delete it. So if you want to delete a file on your desktop that was originally in your Downloads folder, that’s where it will go.
On the other hand, some types of malware are more likely to hide in the parts of your computer where nitro won’t look. An example would be a fake antivirus program that pretends it’s looking for viruses and worms, but really is only searching for legitimate software. This kind of malware could still be there even if it looks like it’s deleted with full scan, because there are lots of other things that can hide and protect files before they get deleted. That’s why full scan is always recommended for removing a lot of malware at once.
For download: The Nitro PDF Reader
After downloading Nitro, launch it and start the quick scan. I will now be listing each of the Nitro’s “scanning options” below, along with my very brief thoughts about their usefulness. If you have any interest in the topic of malware removal, I would highly recommend reading a little more about this program first if it interests you.
I have always been a little leary of any software that “tries to be all things to all people”. I think this could potentially change my mind…

The full scan takes longer, but it checks all areas for both viruses and spyware
In addition to the faster scanning speed, Nitro also optimizes malware removal by working in the background. When a scan is completed, you get a notification window so that you can continue with your work and then view the results later. Nitro notifies you that it’s done so that you don’t have to wait until the system is rebooted.
* Fast, smarter scan: Nitro uses a fast and intelligent scanning technique to focus on the infected files while ignoring the rest of your system. It even scans files that aren’t normally scanned.
* Quick safe mode: With Nitro, safe mode is faster and easier than ever. You simply choose from among several options in a drop-down menu.”

“Security Software Found Virus on Your Computer: Avast! Antivirus
Boulder, CO-November 16, 2009 – When Marcin Treder started getting pop-ups on his PC, he didn’t think much of it. He’s used to pop-ups. But when he got a message from his anti-virus program saying that it had found a virus, he decided to do something about it.
