Share the story of how the company was founded by two friends who met in college
In the fall of 1993, Bill Adams (the “A” in the company name) and Harry Martin (the “M”) met in their freshman year at Stony Brook University. One night in early 1994, as they were sitting on a bench outside Lyle Hall discussing their plans for after graduation, Harry looked Bill straight in the eye and said, “I am going to try to make it in real estate.” For Bill, the moment represented a near life-time of unsuccessful attempts to be in the real estate business. Harry’s words struck Bill with such power that he was immediately consumed by the idea of making it happen. He thought, “In my dreams, I never thought I would get into this business. But now I definitely want to give this a try. Here’s my chance and here’s how we are going to go about doing it!”
By the next day, Bill and Harry had convinced a former high school friend of theirs, Charlie Cavallaro (the “C” in the company name), to join them in their new company. Although he was initially skeptical, Charlie quickly saw the value of the business idea and was in. So that same day, October 13th, 1994, Bill, Harry and Charlie met at Lyle Hall in a place where they all knew they would see each other again. On that spot, they laid out the business plan for their new venture. The Adams and Martin Group was thus founded.
From the very beginning, their vision for the company was to make it into a major real estate company that operated with integrity, honesty and would be successful as Bill and Harry knew they could be.
