What is an Olm file
An Olm file is a saved Internet web page in the OpenDocument Format (ODF) used to organize and catalog a wide variety of different types of files. It is essentially an electronic file for the web. The files can be nothing more than images or text documents, though often the directory structure of the files will have additional information about the nature of the content. The directory is usually structured identically to a folder on a computer hard drive. The “lm” in an Olm file name is an acronym for “Linked Media.”
The structure of the file is often described as a “folder within a folder within a folder,” etc.; the only true requirement is that, while the file must contain all of its own information, it also contains links to external files. This means that if you are browsing an Olm, you may be able to jump directly to any of the linked files without having to go back and re-download them.
An Olm file can be uploaded to a web hosting service, so that it can be viewed by others, or downloaded by those who want to use it. The file can also have additional links added, such as to an organization’s website or backlink page.

How to open an Olm file
An Olm file can be opened using the LibreOffice application for Windows, Mac and Linux. It can also be accessed using the Apache OpenOffice as a text-based file. Finally, it is possible to open an Olm file in an Internet browser window. The Internet browser will usually ask if the user wants to download the file, but the choice to do so with a different application option is available.

What are the benefits of using an Olm file for contacts
People who want to organize their contacts into a comprehensive, easily accessible directory will find that an Olm file does the job. It saves all of the contacts for a person in one central file, making it easy to export them or move them from one device to another. The file will be a Microsoft Outlook Data File (.pst) that can be opened on any Microsoft Windows operating system and on Macs running the Snow Leopard version of the operating system or later. Before you can begin to organize your own contacts into an Olm file, you need to understand how it works.
What Are Olm Files?
These Microsoft Outlook OLM files are made up of any type of contact that has been added to the Windows Address Book program. In other words, all of the contacts for all email accounts or other types of accounts that use this software will be saved in one file and can be moved from one device to another. This includes email, Internet account, telephone accounts and other types of accounts. Each user will have their own separate file that can be opened on their computer. When something is typed into the Address Book program on a computer or another device, it goes into the contacts file. This can include anything from web page addresses to phone numbers and email addresses.
