Introducing SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM)
SolarWinds IP Address Manager is  a versatile software tool that enables easy tracking of client machines, servers and any Internet connected devices. IPAM monitors IP address utilization and helps to ensure that you have the right amount of IP address resources assigned. For example, it can be used to track the number of IPs you need to assign a  dynamic client, or how many DNS records you are using on a specific server. It’s easy  to use and is available in both a web-based interface and as a Windows application.
The IPAM service is delivered with a network of  experts who can help you through the installation and initial configuration process. You can also obtain support from the SolarWinds Knowledge Base,  or through the SolarWinds Community. While IPAM is not a replacement for a dedicated support contract, it does offer some of the same options. For example, you can install IPAM on computers that do not belong to your organization. In addition, you can upgrade or change the IPAM configuration at any time without requiring technical help from an IT expert.
IPAM was  designed to be fast and extremely easy to install, configure and upgrade. In addition, service is provided on a subscription basis and it’s very affordable. Why is IPAM so great? * Integrates with your existing network management and monitoring tools. * Lets you track the resources used by all devices connected to your network. * Automatically updates when the physical addresses of client machines or servers change. * Features an intuitive, easy-to-use web interface. * Provides an easily accessible network map that you can share. * Supports both IPv4 and IPv6.
How does SolarWinds IP Address Manager work?
For example, select a client machine and click the ‘All Devices’ tab. The command will then display all the IP addresses used by that machine. You can also select an Application, Service or Host to see what IPs are being used by it. To see all the information that’s gathered, click the ‘Info’ tab.
The table below shows a sample of the data that’s provided in SolarWinds IP Address Manager. You can see how many IPs are being used, who they’re assigned to and which machine they’re assigned to on.
How does this work?
SolarWinds IP Address Manager works by communicating with the operating system of your computer systems. It runs on an agent called SNMP that is installed on every Windows and Linux computer. SolarWinds IP Address Manager communicates with the SNMP agent installed on your computer systems to gather data about what IP addresses are being used. This information is then presented in a list view on the SolarWinds IP Address Manager console.
It is recommended to run this command on a regular basis for optimal results. To do so, open a Command Prompt or PowerShell and run the following command:

Benefits of using SolarWinds IP Address Manager
The administrator can identify which IP address is used most often, and re-allocate resources accordingly. The SolarWinds IP Address Manager provides the administrator with invaluable insight into IP utilization across the network as well as over time. The administrator can easily identify which IP addresses are being used most often, and then reallocate resources accordingly. By reducing the number of IP addresses in use, the overall network is simplified, and with it, the process of managing that network.
SolarWinds IP Address Manager can also identify unused or duplicate IP addresses making it possible for an administrator to realize potential cost savings. By identifying which IP addresses are being used and which are not, an administrator can optimize their network further by eliminating duplicated or superfluous IP addresses. As a result, overall wasted resources on the network is reduced.
SolarWinds IP Address Manager also provides network administrators with the information needed to take advantage of IP address management (IPAM) functionality. The SolarWinds IP Address Manager is a data input source for many other SolarWinds products, including IP Gateway Monitor, Network Configuration Manager and others.
