China promotes use of the internet for medical health

The General Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China (‘PRC’) issued the Opinions on Promoting the Development of ‘Internet Plus Medical Health’ (‘Opinions’) on 25 April 2018. These Opinions were issued following the Guiding Opinions of the State Council on Actively Propelling the Internet Plus Action Plan and the Guiding Opinions on Propelling the Building of a Hierarchical Diagnosis and Treatment System issued in 2015, as well as the 2030 Planning Outline of Fitness China issued in 2016. As Nicolas Zhu, Partner at CMS China explains, the Opinions draw a clearer structure of follow up actions to be taken to better promote and regulate the development of the internet for medical healthcare in China. These actions mainly focus on the following three areas: (i) clarification and optimisation of the services for ‘Internet Plus Medical Health’; (ii) improvement of the infrastructure to support ‘Internet Plus Medical Health’; and (iii) strengthening supervision and safety assurance.
