The NCSC guidance for small charities on minimising cyber risk

On 1 March 2018, the National Cyber Security Centre (‘NCSC’) published its Cyber Security: Small Charity Guide1 (‘Guide’). This coincides with the NCSC’s report on Cyber Threat Assessment for the UK charity sector2 building on the findings from qualitative research on cyber security among charities3, which was previously commissioned by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (‘DCMS’), and published in August 2017. In this article, Emma Wright and Tom Sutherland of Kemp Little LLP, assess the content of the NCSC’s Guide, and discuss the unique considerations for charities when handling cyber security.
